This web site has all the activities and events for the Read Across the Valley program. This year's theme is Living Simple, Living Plain. We will be focusing on our Pennsylvania Heritage with Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch roots. Our goal is to explore regional cultures, promote reading, and build a sense of community.
What if everyone in the central Susquehanna valley region read the same book at the same time? That was the idea behind two earlier "Read Across the Valley" projects. In 2011, though, libraries in Montour, Northumberland, Lycoming, Snyder, and Union counties will be taking a different approach -- four speakers and one theme.
This year, we will be hosting 4 different speakers.
Kevin Williams, Editor of the Amish Cook
Nationally Syndicated Newspaper Column and co-author of the Amish Cook book series. Kevin will be presenting at the Degenstein Community Library on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
Marta Perry
Author of a new series of "Amish Suspense" books will be presenting at the Degenstein Community Library on Tuesday, August 16, 2011.
Tamar Myers
Author of a mystery series set in Pennsylvania will be presenting on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
Dr. Donald B. Kraybill
Professor and author of "Amish Grace" will be presenting at Susquehanna University on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
