About Us

Read Across the Valley was created in 2008, due to an overwhelming response from a one book program in 2005 on Killer Angels. The group has grown and now includes public and academic libraries across four central Pennsylvania counties and reaches more than 190,000 citizens of all age groups, ethnicities, religions, and cultures. This program provides a multigenerational one book, one community initiative to encourage reading and literacy throughout the communities of the Susquehanna Valley.

Our goals and activities include:

  • Provide a community wide multigenerational reading initiative through quality programs surrounding the theme of Living Simple, Living Plain

  • Provide a community wide book discussion by providing questions and facilitating book discussion events.

  • Enrich the community with the opportunity to experience presentations from best selling authors.

  • Provide an opportunity for local public and academic libraries to develop meaningful partnerships and collaborative relationships by creating a program with representatives from public libraries and an academic library within fifty (50) miles of each other who will share in the planning process.

  • Enrich and build the community with an opportunity to promote reading and literacy throughout the community.
